About

VAN DYKE & COMPANY
"A Great Place to Dance"

Van Dyke and Company was founded in January, 1984 by Joan E. Van Dyke to provide quality dance instruction for children and adults. Disciplined classes and close personal attention has created a very positive and successful atmosphere.

Van Dyke and Company is celebrating thirty-three years of dancing in this area. During this time, we have seen many successful students accomplish some great goals. We have had students awarded scholarships based on ability to some leading training programs such as Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, School of American Ballet, Chautauqua Institute, Boston Ballet, St. Louis Ballet, Alvin Ailey Summer Program, Dance Theater of Harlem and Allegheny Academy. Fourteen of our students were chosen to attend the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts on a full five week scholarship and two students were chosen as an alternate candidate. Some of our alumni have pursued careers through a university setting and have attended Mercyhurst College, Towson State University, Bucknell University, Point Park College, Ohio State and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Former students were accepted on scholarship to Dance Alloy, Haird and the Shenley program. It takes approximately 8 - 9 years to produce a ballet dancer who is truly ready to begin to meet some of the challenging choreographic demands. Van Dyke and Company prepares the student to meet those demands.

Van Dyke and Company staff members have many years of teaching and performing experience and are eminently qualified instructors. Student teachers are required to have at least one hundred twenty hours of demonstrating time as well as their own technique classes. All staff are under the direct supervision of Ms. Van Dyke.

Class enrollment is limited to fifteen students per class to insure quality and personal instruction. Private and semi private classes are offered by appointment. Guest artists and workshops are provided throughout the year with the opportunity for outside scholarships to be awarded. Work study scholarships are available along with demonstrating and student teaching experience.

Not every student will be or wants to be a professional dancer. Van Dyke and Company's instruction is designed to provide the dancer with the opportunity to attain excellence at any level. Van Dyke and Company is dedicated to dance education and sharing with each student the wonderful art of dance.
