Description of Courses

Kinderdance I/II - Minimum age is four
An introduction to classical ballet through creative movement, rhythm and technique. 

Kinderdance wears pink and blue (right) socks. Black leotards (traditional cut), pink tights and pink shoes.

Classical Ballet - A complete study of classical technique based upon the Italian, French and Russian methods combined to create the versatile American dancer.
Girls - Black leotards (traditional cut), pink tights & pink shoes
Boys - Black or grey tights, white t-shirt & black ballet shoes 
Pointe & Demi-Pointe - Ballet skirt optional

Modern - Creative movement and expression. Exploration of the elements of dance, improvisation and composition. Footless solotard, or leotard and Jazz pants.

Jazz - A thorough study of the movement based upon the Luigi and Giordano methods combined with contemporary hip-hop and Broadway style. Any color leotard and tights.  Unitard or Jazz pants withcrop top. Black jazz shoes.

Tap - A comprehensive study of American born tap dancing from beginner level to advanced. Any color leotard and tights. Unitard or Jazz pants with crop top. Black tap shoes.

Ballroom - A very practical course offering a variety of social dances.  For example: polka, foxtrot, tango, waltz and jitterbug. Private instruction and special workshop dates.

Hair: Must be pulled back away from the face and; off shoulders in a bun. All bangs neatly pinned or sprayed back. No extra clothing permitted.

All students are guaranteed at least 32 weeks of classes from September to May. The last week of classes are used for any snow days or cancelled classes initiated by the studio. This is a free week of classes.

Placement/Class Level is based on skill and not on age at VDC. A progressive training curriculum with assessment for each level has been developed for our dance classes to ensure the highest level of training available to each student. Each level has specific number of hours of study to ensure optimum achievement and performance. As the students progress, they are encouraged to fulfill the number of hours recommended for each level in order to maintain and master that level. Once the ballet student has reached the intermediate level, they are encouraged to study for additional hours along with their required hours for that level. 

The "Invitational Class" is by invitation only and is for the student who is studying the required hours or more and who is working very well in all of their classes. If a student chooses not to take the recommended hours for their level then the process will take longer to achieve and progress through. Dance training is a long and rewarding process and there are no short cuts. The physical and psychological demands of the art dictate the process. As in all great things, it takes time, patience, training and hard work to achieve excellence.

Stretch & Flex:  A morning workout using breath work, isometric exercises and stretching for all ages. Monday & Thursday, 10:00 - 11:00 AM, $2.00/class. Instructor: Nancy Jones

"Backs": A new class focusing on the Alexander Method and alignment

Kettlebell:  Thursday, 6:30 - 7:15 PM, $3.00/class
With or without 5 or 10 lb. weights plus aerobics

Yoga for Everyone

Pilates:  A unique "anti-exercise" that helps flexibility. Great for dancers and new moms. 

Turns, Leaps, and Jumps - A class supplement focusing on the technical aspects of turning, leaping and jumping. Addresses the safe execution of movements and integrates advanced progressions. Course also includes core strengthening and flexibility exercises.

Hip-Hop - Urban street dance including a variety of styles. Learn body isolations, strength exercises, and coordination of movement while having fun. Comfortable clothing/jazz or capri pants, sweats, etc. Dance sneakers or clean tennis shoes (worn for indoor use only).

Musical Theatre Dance:  Learn songs and movement from Broadway hits.

"Discover Dance" Creative Movement class to introduce dance as a means for expression.

Teen Swing Join us for the rebirth of the jitterbug, the latest social dance rage.

Social Graces:  Learn greetings, cell phone etiquette, thank you's, ballroom dance and table manners. Culminating with high tea.

Conditioning for Dancers:  Increases performance readiness

Sports Conditioning:  Stretching and strengthening techniques
